Traditional Norwegian Selbu Mittens Knitting Workshop with tutor, Anniken Allis

Saturday 28th November 2026 | 10.15am - 4.15pm

Traditional Norwegian 'Selbu' mittens are popular with knitters around the world. Traditionally knitted in  black and white wool featuring traditional Norwegian 'fair isle' patterns but these mittens can be worked in a  variety of colours for a modern look. 

This workshop will teach you how to knit two-handed fair isle/stranded colour work, how to knit in the round  with a circular needle using the magic loop technique and how to shape your mittens. Techniques taught in this class can also be used to knit traditional Latvian and Estonian mittens. 

You will be given a Selbu inspired mitten or hand warmers pattern to take home. 

You will need to bring 3.25mm circular needle (80cm long).

Skills needed: Knit, purl, cast on and cast off.

There are 10 places on this workshop.

• Yarn, refreshments and lunch will be provided on the day. The workshop takes place at the Black Sheep Craft Barn in Warrington.
